In the year 1936 a few friends and customers of Conway's Country Inn on Rt. 79 Freehold started to hunt and fish together and shoot trap behind the Inn joined together and started the Freehold Fin, Fur and Feather Sportsman Club, Inc.
In 1938 meetings were held in the Country Inn. Later meetings were held at the American Legion home on West Main St. Freehold for the rental of $2.00.

When the War started the club was disbanded in 1946 the club was started again and meetings were held at the Knights of Columbus on West Main St and the American Legion in Freehold.
The Venison dinners were held at the Lithuanian club in Freehold Mrs. Searby did the cooking. Later on at the Peterson's in Lakewood. Some of the Venison was purchased from the State food locker in Forked River.
Around 1954 club purchased the property where the club is now.
There was no initiation fee and the yearly dues were $3.00. Most of the monies were made from raffles and dinners.
The club house built 1954-55. All the work of cutting trees and putting up buildings done by members and friends.
Cobblestones for the fireplace and chimney were taken up from Pennsylvania roadway of the Frieght Station on Throckmorton St. Freehold.
